Interview with Author Heather Mathes

Hello Author Heather Mathes, Welcome to WorldAuthors.Org! Tell us what drives you to write? Your motivation and the purpose of your book(s)?
A passion for sharing what works for me is what drives me to write. I have gained so much valuable knowledge through the years around nutrition, fitness and overall wellness and it brings me joy to share that knowledge with others that may be interested in learning about any of the above. This writing also became my pay-it-forward for the amazing career I’ve had throughout my decades-long modeling career.

What do you hope readers will get out of your books? How will they feel or be different after reading it?
I hope they find “their perfect.” None of us are perfect in the strictest sense of the word but the dichotomy exists that innately we are already perfect because we exist. Our bodies heal wounds perfectly without us thinking about it. We breathe and our hearts beat without effort. And we are naturally designed to be a size that is perfect for our bodies. My job with this book is to help the reader find that place that is perfect for them in an effort for the reader to see the perfection in themselves as easily as they do in others.

What books did you read as a kid/young adult? What are you reading today? How have other authors inspired your writing?
Little Women was the first book I fell in love with as a child. I still love fiction but currently I mainly gravitate towards nonfiction with books topics that include nutrition and wellness. I have several book recommendations that I mention in my book as well as on my website. One book that has influenced me is The Pleasure Trap by Douglas J. Lisle, Alan Goldhamer and another is The China Study by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell. I also enjoyed the writing style of Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. It made me feel like I was listening to a good friend when I read it years ago and that was the feeling I wanted my reader to have throughout my own book.

What is one thing in your book that will surprise readers? (no spoilers though!)
That they can learn how to eat whatever they want, whatever they want while maintaining their consistent size throughout decades of a well-lived life. And that by learning to do so they will gain pleasure and happiness around their food choices rather than feelings of guilt or stress. And that even though they are reading about someone that was paid to keep her body measurements on spec within a quarter of an inch under contract, keeping your body from vacillating between extreme highs and lows can be achieved and maintained by anyone who is at their natural size. And that this book is for everyone, at any size, and at any age.

What are you working on next? More books?
Yes. I am working on a children’s book that I would like to publish hopefully this year!
