The author of Julius Caesar is none other than the most celebrated playwright of all time, William Shakespeare. Born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, Shakespeare is considered one of the finest writers in the world of English literature and is celebrated for his invaluable contributions to literature and theatre.

Written in 1599 or 1600, Julius Caesar was first performed during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The drama tells the tale of the assassination of Julius Caesar, a Roman statesman and general, at the hands of his fellow senators.

The central theme in William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar is betrayal and political ambition. However, fate versus free will is another important theme of the play. Shakespeare’s poetic language and vivid descriptions make it more intriguing.

In addition to Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Othello are some of his other great tragedies which have made a great place in the hearts of the audiences and readers. Shakespeare’s plays have been adapted into countless films, television shows and stage productions over the years.

William Shakespeare’s contributions to literature and theatre are immeasurable. His plays are still taught at school, especially to English literature students. The greatest playwright’s works continue to be celebrated and studied even today.
