New Book Claims Meghan Markle Was “Hugely Disappointed” by Royal Family

According to author Tom Quinn’s new book, “Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family,” Meghan Markle was left “hugely disappointed” by the royal family during her time as a working royal. Quinn, who spoke to a Kensington Palace staffer for the book, revealed that Meghan was “shocked by the Palace protocol” and realized “she couldn’t influence” the institution after she married into the royal family in May 2018.

The source said that Meghan had expected to be living in Windsor Castle but was given Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace instead. The staffer added that Meghan never wanted to obey the rules she was expected to follow and was “a rebel within the royal family” like Princess Diana. The insider also claimed that Meghan was treated in a “condescending way” because she was not a blood royal.

Quinn compared Meghan to Princess Diana, saying that the way the press attacked Meghan was “very much like Diana.” He added that Meghan sees Diana as a kindred spirit. The book, which draws parallels between Meghan and her late mother-in-law, is set to be released in the U.S. in December.
