The author of Arthashashtra is Chanakya, also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, who was an ancient Indian philosopher, economist and political strategist. His best work, Arthashashtra, is popular for its teachings on statecraft and governance.

It is believed that Chanakya lived in the 4th century BCE in India. Chanaka village in Golla Vishaya (region) was his birthplace. Chanakya’s Arthashastra is an ancient Indian treasure on economics, statecraft and military strategy.

Chanakya was a celebrated scholar, philosopher, and advisor to the Mauryan Emperor Chandragupta Maurya. Considered one of the greatest minds in Indian history, he is often compared to philosophers like Machiavelli and Sun Tzu.

Chanakya’s other notable works include Chanakya Niti, which is a collection of aphorisms on ethics and governance. Though Chanakya’s contributions to Indian political thought are enormous, his personal life remains hidden in mystery.

Kautilya, known as Chanakya, had a lasting impact on Indian history as his ideas and teachings still inspire scholars, readers and leaders today. Arthashastra is a book that is still considered to be a valuable source of knowledge on governance and administration.
