Los Angeles–based singer-songwriter Zarema unveils a powerful new chapter with the emotionally resonant remix of her single “Closure” by David Alexander, along with an extended version for deeper, immersive listening. The release follows October’s Vic Latino remix and sets the stage for the official original version of “Closure,” produced by John Russell.
Written after a deeply personal tragedy, “Closure” emerged from Zarema’s experience of losing a close family member to COVID during the earliest days of the pandemic, when hospital visits were impossible and many families were denied the chance to say goodbye. She began composing the music in late 2020 and completed the lyrics months later as the full emotional weight of that loss settled in. The result is an achingly sincere pop ballad about grief, unanswered questions, and learning to move forward without the comfort of closure.
“My latest song was inspired by the unexpected loss of a family member,” Zarema shares. “So many of us never had the opportunity to be there in those final moments. I wrote this song to honor that feeling and, hopefully, help others feel less alone.”
The David Alexander Remix reimagines “Closure” through an expansive, atmospheric lens, amplifying its emotional impact while offering a fresh, club-ready pulse. The Extended Remix invites listeners to fully sink into its mood, deepening the song’s message and emotional resonance.
At its core, “Closure” speaks to anyone who has endured sudden loss, whether through bereavement, separation, or the quiet heartbreak of words left unspoken. Though rooted in grief, the song is lifted by empathy and connection. “My music expresses my empathy for other people,” Zarema reflects. “I hope it comforts them, and for others, I hope it inspires genuine empathy in themselves.”
Zarema is a Los Angeles–based singer, songwriter, and actress of Crimean Tatar descent. Born in exile in Soviet Uzbekistan, she returned to Crimea after the fall of the USSR and began her musical journey early, studying piano and writing songs throughout childhood. She gained national recognition in Crimea before rising to prominence in Turkey and Eastern Europe, signing with Sony BMG Turkey and performing for crowds of tens of thousands.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Zarema expanded her artistic reach across music and screen. She is now a respected multilingual voice actor and SAG-AFTRA member, with credits on NCIS, FBI: International, Madam Secretary, The Queen’s Gambit, Charlie’s Angels, The Morning Show, and more. Musically, she continues to release English-language material with top producers, while maintaining the deeply personal storytelling that defines her work.
Following the emotional impact of her 2024 release “I Hold You Child,” “Closure” marks another defining moment in her artistic evolution. It is a piece rooted in vulnerability, compassion, and emotional truth. With multiple remixes introducing the track to new sonic territories and the original version arriving soon, “Closure” is poised to become one of Zarema’s most meaningful releases to date.
