Trine University is hosting a special event later this month to celebrate alumna Mycah Houser’s debut novel. Houser recently self-published her first book, Sing the Dark to Sleep, and will return to campus to discuss the project and meet readers.
The event will be held on Wednesday, March 25, at Wells Theater on campus.
The program will begin at 3:30 p.m., when Houser will take part in a discussion about the writing process and the journey of publishing her first novel. She will be joined by fellow Trine alumna Isabel Newcom, who works as a children’s librarian at the Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County.
They’ll talk about storytelling, creativity, and Houser’s experience writing the book. The audience will also get a chance to ask questions.
After the discussion, there will be a reception with light snacks in the theater from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Houser will sign copies of her novel and meet attendees during this time.
A limited number of books will be available for purchase at the event for $15 each, but readers are encouraged to order in advance on Amazon to ensure they get a copy.
Attendees can also reserve a copy of Sing the Dark to Sleep for pickup during the event. Reservations can be made by contacting Jeanette Goddard, associate professor at Trine University. Requests must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, March 18, and reserved copies must be paid for in cash for $15 at the event.
Houser graduated from Trine University with a bachelor’s in English and later earned a Master of Science in organizational leadership. Her debut novel is a cozy romantasy that blends romance and fantasy with a light, immersive storytelling style.
This event gives students, faculty, and community members a chance to celebrate a Trine graduate’s work and learn about the creative journey of writing and publishing a first novel.
