The makers of Dhurandhar have released the much-anticipated trailer, and social media is already buzzing with theories about the film’s real-life inspirations. Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, the movie is reportedly based on true events. The trailer features a strong ensemble cast, with each actor playing a character inspired by figures from India and Pakistan’s history.

    Ranveer Singh’s Character

The trailer does not mention Ranveer Singh’s character’s name, but his appearance and actions suggest he is an undercover Indian Army officer operating in Pakistan. Many online believe his role is based on Major Mohit Sharma, the Ashok Chakra recipient who infiltrated Hizbul Mujahideen as Iftikhar Bhat and died in action in Kupwara.

    Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal

The film begins with Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal, a harsh character who is shown torturing captured Indian soldiers. His role brings to mind the brutality Indian soldiers faced during the Kargil War and seems to be inspired by Ilyas Kashmiri, a former militant involved in several terror attacks, including the 26/11 attacks. Kashmiri was known in intelligence circles for his violent tactics and ties to extremist groups.

    R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal

R Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, a senior officer from India’s intelligence agency. The character closely resembles Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor and former Intelligence Bureau chief. In the trailer, he appears as a calm and clever strategist who believes in targeting Pakistan by understanding its terror networks. His scenes remind viewers of real events like the IC 814 hijacking talks and secret missions from the 1980s and 1990s.

    Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait

Akshaye Khanna takes on the role of Rehman Dakait, a confident and dangerous figure who moves easily through Pakistan’s political and criminal worlds. The character is based on Rehman Dakait, a notorious gangster from Karachi. Born Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch, he rose from the streets and tried to gain political power. His gang, the People’s Aman Committee, controlled Lyari until he was killed by police in 2009.

Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam

Sanjay Dutt plays SP Chaudhary Aslam, a brave officer known for his tough approach. The character is based on the real Pakistani police officer Chaudhry Aslam, who was famous for fighting gangs and militants. He survived many assassination attempts before he was killed in a bomb blast in 2014.

    Casting Choices Behind Dhurandhar

Casting director Mukesh Chhabra explained how the actors were chosen for these strong roles. He said Sanjay Dutt was the first person he thought of for his character. He also mentioned that R Madhavan’s look instantly reminded him of Ajit Doval. Chhabra said Madhavan first laughed at the idea but agreed to the role after learning more about it.

    Release Date

Besides Ranveer Singh, the film features Sara Arjun and a talented supporting cast. Dhurandhar will be released in theaters on December 5.

The excitement around the trailer shows that viewers are eager for a tense, action-packed drama based on real events and people who shaped a dramatic period in South Asian history.
