Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s memoir I Am Giorgia — My Roots, My Principles, praising her as a patriot and resilient leader. The book will be published in India by Rupa Publications.
In his foreword, Modi described the autobiography as Meloni’s “Mann Ki Baat,” likening it to his own radio broadcast, which reflects his personal thoughts and values. He highlighted her political journey as “inspiring and historic,” noting that it resonates strongly with Indians.
Modi wrote that Meloni’s life underscores “timeless truths” of resilience and rootedness, while her belief in defending cultural heritage “mirrors India’s own values.” He further stressed that both nations share civilizational instincts such as respect for tradition, strength of community, and the celebration of womanhood as a guiding force.
The foreword also touched on the personal camaraderie between the two leaders, who have frequently been referred to as “Melodi” online.
The original version of I Am Giorgia was released in 2021, when Meloni was in opposition, and chronicled her early life, political awakening, and rise through Italian politics. A US edition followed in June 2025, with a foreword by Donald Trump Jr., who praised her working-class roots and described her journey as a “patriotic tidal wave.”
The upcoming Indian edition will mark another international release for the memoir, offering readers an intimate look at the Italian leader’s principles and personal convictions, now framed with reflections from one of her closest global allies.
I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles
A memoir chronicling the early personal and political life of the current Prime Minster of Italy.
“I have heard too many people talk about me and my ideas not to realize how different my life and I actually are from the way we are portrayed. So, I decided to open up, to show who I am, what I believe in, and how I got here.”
In her memoir, Giorgia Meloni speaks about herself in depth for the first time. She talks about her roots, her childhood, and her relationship with her mother Anna, her sister Arianna, her grandparents Maria and Gianni, and the pain of her father’s absence. She shares her visceral passion for politics, which took her from her neighborhood of Garbatella to the Government as a Minister, and then to the leadership of Fratelli d’Italia and the European Conservatives. She also expresses the joy of being the mother of little Ginevra and her love story with Andrea. Additionally, she discusses her dreams and the future she envisions for Italy and Europe.
With her characteristic frankness and clarity, she also tackles complex topics such as motherhood, identity, and faith. This passionate and engaging account reveals the past, present, and future of a political leader who has caught the attention of many, both in Italy and beyond.
