Why I Wish To Become an Author
‘Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where knowledge is free and
The world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls.
Where the words come from the depth of truth.
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit into that heaven of freedom , my father let my country awake….’
The word ‘Author’ itself holds a great meaning so when they ask why I wish to become an author, I would simply say because writing gives me access to my mind. When I sit with a paper and pen in front of me, there is no power which can stop me from writing. It is because I feel free to write. Writing isn’t a big deal, its just what you think, what you feel, what you can create and then just frame it up! That’s what an Author does, right.. so considering this, I would say yes!, I would love to become an author.
At times people ask me what is your goal in life? what would you like to pursue? and the most asked of all, what kind of job you are interested to do? I would say that I would love to do a job where there are no boundaries to stop me and wherein I could express through my work. Hearing all this the answer I used to get was that I need to be organized. But these answers didn’t prick me as I know that a pen is mightier than a sword.
Now you all must be aware of the most barbaric incident witnessed in Paris, in the office of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. This incident was absolutely the result of atrocities of those terrorist with criminal minds. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth are the bizarre thoughts of criminal minds but I think that this incident only reflects that the extremist are afraid of the power of books and pens. But if the idea would have been that a pen is not a weapon but a medium of expression, then this incident would not have taken place. But this incident made it clear for once and for all that a pen has a point and gun does not! So at this juncture I feel even more adamant on becoming an author.
There are usually two types of authors, those who write because they have something to say, something to express to the people with their power of writing and those who write for the sake of writing. But the author who does not write just because he has been asked to and instead write to convey a message to people, is the true author.
Now taking pride in our history, I would like to throw some light on the past glories of authors and poets , whose writings and sayings (before independence) not only spread awareness among people but also taught them how to fight for their freedom by not fighting battles with armed equipments but battles of wits, reason and rationalism. This once again proved that the pen is mightier than the sword.
Writings not only helps an author to earn money but also helps to think with wider perspective and eventually provides him with vast knowledge. Once Shakespeare wrote, ‘Ignorance is the curse of God, knowledge is the wing wherewith we fly to heaven. Vast knowledge can thus surpass everything in this world!
I even believe that secrets must not be leaked into the ears of those who can not keep it safely with them. So why not write a bit oneself on a piece of paper as I think that paper is more patient than man. This is also one reason that I would like to become an author.
I have heard somewhere that what we have done for ourself alone dies with us, what we have done for others remains and becomes immortal. So I want to leave a bit of myself here in this world in the form of my writings and books. Thus I would love to become an author.
