September 14, 2025, became a special day for India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed two important occasions that highlight the soul of Indian culture – Hindi Diwas and the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. His messages not only paid respect to India’s linguistic and cultural roots but also inspired people to carry forward the nation’s rich heritage.
On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Prime Minister Modi extended warm greetings to the nation. In his message, he underlined the significance of Hindi as more than just a language of communication; it is a living heritage of India’s identity and values.
In his post on X, he wrote that Hindi carries within it India’s identity, culture, and traditions. He urged every citizen to work towards enriching not just Hindi but all Indian languages, and to pass them proudly to future generations. He also expressed pride in the increasing respect Hindi is receiving on the global stage, saying it brings both honour and inspiration to India.
He said that every Indian language holds unique value, and together, they form the heart of India’s diversity. The Prime Minister’s call was not only about celebrating Hindi but also about preserving the plurality of voices that make India culturally vibrant.
A day before, on September 13, the Prime Minister visited Guwahati, Assam, to participate in the grand celebrations of the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, one of India’s most respected cultural icons. The event was attended by leaders from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and family members of Hazarika, along with thousands of admirers.
The Prime Minister paid an emotional tribute, calling Bhupen Hazarika—fondly known as Bhupen Da – a true son of India who connected music with sensitivity and wove the nation’s dreams into his songs. He recalled the immortal lines sung by Bhupen Da, such as “Manuhe manuhor babe…”, which highlight compassion and unity among human beings.
PM Modi said that even though Bhupen Da is no longer physically present, his voice continues to inspire India’s journey of development and cultural pride. The government has dedicated the centenary year to celebrating his life, songs, and messages, ensuring that every Indian household becomes familiar with his contributions.
Bhupen Hazarika was not just a singer and composer; he was a messenger of unity. Born in Assam, he travelled across India and the world but remained deeply connected to the soil of his homeland. Through his songs, he spoke about social justice, compassion, and harmony.
His works gave a voice to the common man, reflected the struggles of the poor, and carried the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. Whether it was the cultural beauty of Assam, the strength of Arunachal, or the unity of India during difficult times, his music became a bridge of emotions across regions.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Bhupen Da’s dream of a prosperous North East is now becoming a reality, with the region witnessing rapid development. By naming the Bhupen Hazarika Bridge and organizing year-long celebrations, the nation has paid tribute to his vision.
Both of PM Modi’s messages on Hindi Diwas and on Bhupen Hazarika carried a common thread: the need to take pride in India’s roots while working towards building a stronger, united, and self-reliant future.
