In Vedic astrology, the first house, often called Lagna (Ascendant), holds great importance. There are twelve houses in the birth chart. The first house serves as a foundation of a person’s birth chart (Kundali) and primarily influences various aspects of life, personality, and destiny.

The first house is from where the astrological chart begins and represents the eastern horizon at the time of birth. It represents self, identity, and physical existence. Whichever sign occupies the first house at the time of birth is called as Lagna or Ascendant.

As it plays the key role in an astrological chart, the first house embodies the essence of who we are. It shows our physical attributes, strength, and any inherent weaknesses. Also, it gives a glimpse into a person’s health and lifestyle choices.

While the sign placed in the first house matters a lot, the planet sitting in the first house equally plays a crucial role in shaping an individual’s personality. For example, if Sun is sitting in the first house, it makes a person a good leader and gives a lot of confidence. So, the first house is the representation of an individual’s self-identity to physical health.
