While most mainstream love stories lean on big drama, over-the-top conflicts, or predictable romance, Chand Mera Dil stands out. Directed by Vivek Soni, this film offers a heartfelt look at young love, showing what happens when romance meets real-life responsibilities, ambitions, and the challenges of growing up.
Lakshya and Ananya Panday star in the lead roles. The film starts as a typical college romance but soon becomes a much deeper, more emotional story.
Set within an engineering college, the story follows Aarav and Chandni, two students deeply in love and fully invested in their relationship. Unlike many cinematic romances where careers and real-life concerns disappear, Chand Mera Dil keeps its characters firmly rooted in reality. Academic pressures, career aspirations, financial concerns, and future uncertainties remain central to their lives, making the relationship feel authentic and relatable.
The film’s biggest strength lies in its writing. Aarav and Chandni are not idealized characters designed solely to serve a romantic fantasy. They are young adults navigating life and making difficult decisions with real consequences. When an unexpected pregnancy disrupts their plans, the story shifts from youthful passion to emotional maturity, forcing both characters to confront challenges they are not fully prepared for.
Ananya Panday delivers one of her best performances to date. She shows quiet strength and emotion as Chandni, playing a young woman who stands by her self-respect even when she faces tough choices. Her subtle acting lets us feel the character’s struggles without over-the-top drama.
Lakshya also carries the film’s emotional side with sincerity. He shows Aarav’s change from a carefree student to someone weighed down by responsibility, frustration, and regret with care. Lakshya does a great job of showing the confusion and vulnerability of someone trying to balance love with life’s pressures.
One of the best things about the film is that it doesn’t create fake villains. There are no angry parents, dramatic love triangles, or outside forces breaking the couple up. Instead, the problems come from real-life situations, emotional pain, and tough decisions. This makes the heartbreak feel more real and often more relatable.
Chand Mera Dil looks great thanks to its Hyderabad setting, a nice change from what we usually see in Hindi romance movies. The camera work uses warm colors and close-up shots to show both the closeness and the growing distance between the main characters as their relationship changes.
The soundtrack by Sachin-Jigar fits the story well. The songs never get in the way and instead make the emotional moments stronger. The music supports the story without taking over.
Still, the film has its flaws. Some parts feel too planned, and characters sometimes say things the audience already knows. The first half could have been edited more tightly to improve the pace. Also, some story developments seem delayed just to make later scenes more emotional.
Even with these small issues, Chand Mera Dil works because it treats its characters and audience with respect. The film understands that modern relationships are messy, complicated, and shaped by more than just love.
Instead of offering simple answers, the film asks viewers to reflect on commitment, self-worth, responsibility, and forgiveness. It knows that love alone can’t always fix everything, and that truth gives the story its emotional strength.
