Stories do not always fit neatly into one category. Some writers move between genres, while others find their voice by exploring a particular kind of story. At The RV Book Fair 2026, this idea came to life during the panel “Celebrating Stories Across Genres,” featuring authors Kelly Caleb, Vicky Oliver and Vivien Schapera.
Hosted by Lucia Matuonto, the conversation brought together three authors with different creative journeys and perspectives on writing. Rather than focusing on one particular genre, the panel explored the many ways writers can approach storytelling and connect with readers.
Kelly Caleb joined the discussion alongside Vicky Oliver and Vivien Schapera, each bringing their own experiences as authors to the conversation. Their different backgrounds and approaches offered a glimpse into how varied the writing journey can be.

The discussion also touched on the inspiration behind their books and the relationship between writers and their readers. While genres can help readers discover the kinds of stories they enjoy, the conversation highlighted how a good story can reach beyond those boundaries.

For writers, there is often pressure to define themselves by a particular category. But authors can write from curiosity, personal experience, imagination and a desire to explore ideas that interest them. The panel provided an opportunity to look at that freedom and the different directions a writing career can take.
Lucia Matuonto, who has been closely involved with The RV Book Fair, guided the conversation as the authors shared their thoughts and experiences. The result was a relaxed discussion about books, creativity and the simple joy of telling stories.

“Celebrating Stories Across Genres” was also a fitting theme for a book fair that brings together authors and readers from different backgrounds. Every writer has a different path to the page, and every reader brings their own experiences to the stories they discover.

The panel offered a reminder that there is no single way to become a writer or tell a story. Whether a book belongs clearly to one genre or crosses several, what matters is the connection it creates with the reader.
