Lynn Hollyfield, an award-winning singer-songwriter, has just released her fourth studio album, Diving In. This heartfelt collection of contemporary folk songs explores life’s surprises, love, loss, resilience, and the choices that shape us. Produced by Grammy-nominated musician Seth Glier, the album combines classic folk traditions with modern songwriting, giving listeners an honest and warm musical experience.
Diving In was recorded at Ghost Hit Recording Studios in West Springfield, Massachusetts. After a Spring Songwriting Challenge and a Summer Songwriter’s Retreat, Hollyfield met Seth Glier, which led to a creative recording session. All 11 tracks were finished in just five days, right before Christmas 2025. The sessions took place in a restored historic New England church, with snow falling outside, and featured talented musicians like Seth Glier, Abbie Gardner, Reed Sutherland, Rob Griffith, and Kelly Halloran.
The album’s songs reflect different stages of life, touching on shared humanity, personal growth, grief, hope, and the choices we make during tough times. While it is grounded in contemporary folk, Diving In also draws from traditional and Americana influences, giving the record a timeless and genuine sound.
Hollyfield says folk music has “a quiet beauty in tradition,” creating emotional landscapes and giving listeners a chance to slow down in a busy world. This idea is present throughout the album, making Diving In feel both personal and relatable to many people.
Lynn Hollyfield is known for her emotionally rich songwriting, warm stage presence, and unique musical style. She blends crisp acoustic guitar, jazz harmonies, blues-inspired guitar, and a rich alto voice. People often compare her to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Bonnie Raitt, with hints of George Gershwin’s influence, but Hollyfield’s voice is truly her own: witty, soulful, thoughtful, and sincere.
Hollyfield grew up in Staten Island, New York, and started writing songs as a teenager. She was inspired by artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, and Neil Young. She first became known as part of the folk duo Hollyfield & Spruill, performing at events like the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, before starting her solo career.
Over the years, Hollyfield has released several well-received albums, including LAYERS (2010), IN THE BALANCE(2014), and LOOK UP (2024). Her music has been played on radio stations in the U.S. and abroad, and she has won multiple songwriting awards. The International Folk Alliance has named her among its Top Artists and Top Albums. During the pandemic, she published a children’s book, The Tree, The Ship and Me, and its song was a finalist in the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.
In addition to recording and touring on the East Coast, Hollyfield is active in the songwriting community. She hosts the Songwriters Association of Washington open mic and is the Music Director at the Celebration Center for Spiritual Living in Falls Church, Virginia. Through these roles, she continues to inspire people with her music and community work.
With Diving In, Lynn Hollyfield shows once again that thoughtful songwriting and real storytelling are central to contemporary folk music. The album invites listeners to pause, reflect, and embrace life’s journey through songs that are both personal and meaningful to many.
